	Back to Pastoral Staff	Ordained: October 4, 2008 After five years of evening classes at Sacred Heart Seminary and four years of weekend formation days with his peers, Deacon Tom received an Intermediate Diploma in Diaconal Studies and was ordained a Permanent Deacon. The National Shrine is his first assignment after ordination. The Permanent Diaconate was re-established during the Second Vatican Council by Pope Paul VI and allows married men to receive the first level of Holy Orders. Deacon Tom is married to Barbara and has three children and two grandchildren. Together they teach the Baptism classes at the National Shrine and have a passion for helping families and children grow closer to their faith.
