Shrine will host Renaissance Pipe Organ Co. Inc. for a presentation 7-8 p.m. Jan. 29 on the upcoming restoration of Shrine's rare Kilgen organ.
The massive instrument is currently operating at about 15% of its intended capacity, and work is being explored to eventually restore it to the majesty of its full voice.
The organ has 96 ranks of pipes and 6,575 pipes total — ranging from 32 feet tall to smaller than a pencil — which are housed under the stone and in the walls throughout the church.
Experts believe this may be the largest unaltered Kilgen organ in the country, possibly in the world.
